You know when you try and cancel a print job but it doesn’t cancel and wont let anything else print? – Yeah, how to fix that

Not sure about you but this happens to me all the time. You go to print something but then realise you don't want it printed any more so you try and cancel it but it just freezes everything up and doesn't allow anything else to print.

Well it's actually quite easy to fix. All you need to do is restart the Print Spooler service.

Here's how:

(I'll assume you're using Windows 7)

1. Start > Run (the search box thing) "Services"

(Windows XP: StartControl PanelPerformance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools, and then double-click Services)

2. Scroll down until you find Print Spooler

3. Right-click on it, and press Stop. Then press Start (but don't restart)

4. Your print queue should now be empty. If it's still trying to cancel/delete a print job, repeat Step 3

Never disable right-click

Web developers are always concerned about people stealing their code/design/image(s). One solution that people have found to prevent this is to disable right-click.

I hate it. Everyone does.

So my message to you web devs (mostly amateurs, may I add) out there who use this technique is; don't bother.

What about the innocent viewers who just want to copy, or print? What about the innocent viewers who want to open a link in a new window? Eh?

...Exactly.. they're all viewers you've just lost.

Seriously, there's no point trying to stop people stealing your content anyway. People can just disable Javascript... or better still, the good old screenshot?

Use Google’s DNS servers to get around the TPB block

The other day I posted about UK ISPs blocking The Pirate Bay.

Well one simple way to get around this block is to use Google's public DNS servers. Really, you should be doing this anyway, as they're updated more often and are generally quicker than your ISP's.

Anyhow, here's how to change your network settings to use Google's DNS servers (assuming you're using Win 7) in 5 easy steps:

1. Start > Network and Sharing Center

2. Click on your network connection

3. Select Properties

4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 and click Properties

5. Select Use the following DNS server addresses and enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

High Court tells Internet Service Providers to block The Pirate Bay

Update: How to get around block

Censorship.

That's what this world is coming to.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/9236667/Pirate-Bay-must-be-blocked-High-Court-tells-ISPs.html

To sum up, ISPs have been ordered to block The Pirate Bay in the UK.

This is stupid, and will just fuel mahem.

Granted, the music/film/technology industry needs to find ways to combat piracy and copyright infringement, but censoring our internet is not the way to do it.

This is a bit like SOPA and PIPA. Once one site is blocked, what's to stop them blocking more, and more.

A Virgin Media spokesman said that while the ISP would comply with the judgement, it “strongly believes that changing consumer behaviour to tackle copyright infringement also needs compelling legal alternatives, such as our agreement with Spotify, to give consumers access to great content at the right price."
